When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect data shown in the comments form, including the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string for spam detection.

An anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. After approval, your profile picture is visible in the context of your comment. Gravatar privacy policy.


If you upload images, avoid those with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) as visitors can download and extract location data.


If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These last for one year. A temporary cookie is set on the login page to check if your browser accepts cookies, containing no personal data and discarded on browser close.

Login cookies last for two days, screen options cookies last for a year. If “Remember Me” is selected, login persists for two weeks. Editing or publishing an article saves an additional cookie with the post ID, which expires after 1 day.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely for automatic approval of follow-up comments.

For registered users, personal information is stored in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information except for the username. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you have an account or left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data or request erasure. This excludes data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
